david sophia siegel's music
for killing my lobster's production of 'the listening room'
the music: ... best of ... all the music ... full resume ... just kml! ...
July, 2004
Killing My Lobster's Bruno's Island New Plays Festival, 2004
production of "The Listening Room" at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, California.
Play written by Kevin Shay.
Director: Alec Tok
Cast: Leo Lawhorn, Lily Ogelsby, Shay Casey and Paco Romane.
My role: Sound Designer/Composer
This play is a somewhat comedic drama about a rock music critic who is held
hostage in his own home by a mysterious woman who is intent upon making him
face some hard truths about being a music critic and about himself. The
music for the show reflected the confusion and psychological turmoil that the
main character, Malcolm, over the course of the play, from ignorance of why
he has been effectively imprisoned and fear of his captor to his eventual
acceptance of his responsibility for certain aspects of his personal history
from which he had been hiding.
Music/sound from the show is found below, along with some tracks developed
for but not used in the show. The sounds in the tracks are essentially
'found sound' motifs, sampled and woven together into a variety of acoustic
tapestries or themes. This music was played between scenes in the play.
I also provided some sound effects for the show, which are not included here.
