david sophia siegel's music
for killing my lobster's 2004 sketch comedy show, 'pop!'
the music:  ... best of ... all the music ... full resume ... just kml! ...

February, 2004
Killing My Lobster's "Pop!" sketch comedy show.

Director: Andy Miara
Cast: Molly Berry, Melanie Case, Tonya Glantz, Emily Helfgot,
Daniel Lee, Ian Scott McGregor, Jon Wolanske and Patty Wortham.
Venue: The Theatre Artaud in San Francisco, California.

My role: Composer/Songwriter and Performer/Musician.
The Boneless Children Foundation was the "house band" for the
show, and consisted of myself on guitar and vocals, Paco Romane
on bass, Brian Gorman on drums, and Michael Musika on guitar and
vocals.

THE MUSIC:
- Bluebeard Song (click to hear) - With Daniel Lee on lead vocals, and Melanie Case, Tonya Glantz and Jon Wolanske doing backup! Lyrics & music, as well as bass and electric guitars, by myself, and drums by Jonathan Kepke.
- Pop Finale (click to hear) - Once again, the singers are Daniel Lee, Melanie Case, Tonya Glantz and Jon Wolanske, with myself singing the "Ron Howard" part (see below). Also, this song features myself on bass and electric guitar, and J. Logan Barrier on drums.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

The music for the show included a bunch of musical snippets, including a news melody, a strip-tease song by Michael Musika, and two song-and-dance numbers that I wrote: The "Bluebeard Song," about a flamboyant, David Bowie-esque pirate named Bluebeard, and a Finale about celebrity more generally, with lyrics co-written by Andy Miara, Boaz Reisman and myself. The Finale squeezes the characters and concepts in the show - such as the character "Business Person #2" being shot - into one, big rock & roll moment.

A running joke in the show was that no jokes would be made about Michael Jackson, and that, instead, all such jokes would be about Ron Howard. Hence, a character having Ron Howard's history (but Michael Jackson's career and legal troubles) was featured prominently in the show. I sing this character's part in the finale. "I started out famous for being a kid..."

"Bluebeard" and "Pop Finale" are presented above for your enjoyment!

The show ran for two weeks, with ten performances in all.
